How do I reconstitute a peptide?

Add bacteriostatic water to the lyophilized vial and let the powder dissolve without shaking hard. The amount of water sets the concentration: the same vial in less water is more concentrated. Enter the vial size in mg and the water volume in mL and the calculator shows the resulting mg/mL concentration.

How is the concentration calculated?

Concentration is the vial content divided by the water volume. A 10 mg vial in 2 mL of water is 5 mg/mL. Reconstitute the same 10 mg vial in 1 mL and it is 10 mg/mL, so the same volume then carries twice the mass.

How much water should I use?

Accepted Answer

There is no single right amount: more water gives a lower concentration and a larger volume per aliquot, less water gives a higher concentration and a smaller volume. The calculator lets you try different volumes and see the mg/mL each one gives, so you can pick the concentration that reads most cleanly. How does it handle blends?

For a combination product the calculator splits one aliquot across the components by their share of the total mg, so you can see the mass of each component in that aliquot. The parts always sum to the total.
