What is Epitalon?

Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide of four amino acids (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly), derived from the sequence analysis of the pineal gland extract Epithalamin. Vladimir Khavinson and his research group shaped this field of research from the 1970s onward; the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology he founded was established in 1992.

The central research hypothesis is that Epitalon can increase telomerase activity in certain cell models. This is relevant to aging research because telomerase is involved in maintaining telomere length. Quality Criteria When Buying Epitalon

Unlike many other peptides, Epitalon has no simple visual quality indicator (such as the blue color of GHK-Cu). That makes the analytical evidence all the more important:

Check HPLC purity

The usual research-grade benchmark is ≥98%, with 95% often regarded as the lower limit. The Certificate of Analysis (CoA) should show the HPLC chromatogram peak and the purity value. Since HPLC purity is calculated as the area of the target peak relative to all peaks, any value below 100% reflects a proportion of non-target material (synthesis by-products or degradation products).

Match the mass spectrometry

The CoA should show the molecular mass confirmed by MS. For Epitalon (AEDG) the expected mass is 390,35 g/mol. A significant deviation signals an identity or composition problem (e.g. a missing residue, impurity, oxidation). Note: a matching mass confirms the molecular weight, not the exact amino acid order; only sequencing (MS/MS) verifies that.

Match the batch on the CoA with the vial

The batch number on the label should be linkable to the certificate of analysis, either directly or via a verifiable test ID (e.g. a Janoshik verify link). A generic CoA with no batch reference cannot be traced back to your specific vial and therefore does not serve as proof for that exact batch.

Verify the test with the lab itself

The most important and most frequently skipped step. A PDF can be faked, an entry in the lab database cannot. More on this in the next section.

Important: PDFs alone are no proof

A certificate of analysis supplied as an image or PDF says little on its own, because it can easily be edited. Only matching it against the testing lab's verification page, which the seller does not control, makes a CoA verifiable. That is exactly why we built the verify function.

State of the evidence

The often-cited 2003 work (Khavinson) described, in a telomerase-negative culture of human fetal fibroblasts under Epitalon, telomerase activation and extended division capacity. The animal literature is not consistent: a 2003 mouse study found no significant increase in mean lifespan. The data are suitable for hypothesis generation but do not support a robust lifespan claim.
