TB-500 is a synthetic 43-amino acid fragment derived from thymosin beta-4, a naturally occurring protein that promotes cell proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis. The peptide functions through actin sequestration that regulates cellular migration of endothelial, myocardial, and epicardial progenitor cells, while simultaneously promoting tubule formation and stabilization of nascent vascular structures. Preclinical studies demonstrate enhanced wound healing with reepithelialization rates increased by 42-61% compared to controls, along with upregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor signaling pathways and activation of the Akt pathway through integrin-linked kinase.
